Knowing what something should cost before you commit to a purchase is just plain smart. Getting the right information, however, is a little more involved than simply asking the cost. “How much does a kitchen remodel cost in Atlanta” may seem like a straightforward question- but getting a helpful answer to your specific question about kitchen remodeling is a little more complicated.
A Remodel Is More Than Just a New Look
A true kitchen remodel isn’t just about changing the color schemes or brightness of your kitchen. It’s about making sure that your kitchen reflects and enhances your lifestyle. That begins with great design—before you even begin to consider cabinets, countertops, flooring, or appliances. Here’s a helpful article that explores how to work with a designer to get the results you really want.
Obviously, not everyone will have the same wants, needs, or requirements for creating a kitchen that matches their lifestyle. The price of your remodel will depend on the size of your kitchen, the scope (complexity) or your project, and on the materials and appliances you include. Still, it’s very helpful to have at least a ballpark idea of what you’re project could cost before you get too far into the project. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the 2019 Cost vs. Value Report for a variety of kitchen remodeling projects in the Atlanta area.
Cost for a Major Kitchen Renovation
If a minor kitchen remodel doesn’t give you the results you want, you may want to opt for a major kitchen remodel. This assumes updating an outmoded 200-square-foot kitchen with a functional layout of 30 linear feet of semi-custom wood cabinets. It also includes a 3x5-foot island, laminate countertops, and a standard double-tub stainless steel sink with standard single-lever faucet.
Also included in the project is the installation of an energy- efficient range with vented range hood, a built-in microwave, a dishwasher, and garbage disposal. Finishes would include custom lighting and new resilient flooring. Walls, trim, and ceiling would also be painted.
This kind of kitchen remodel averages $66,246 in the Atlanta area.
Cost for an Upscale Kitchen Remodel
If you’re looking for a little more luxury and impact, you might consider a major upscale kitchen remodel. Similar to the other projects we’ve outlined, you would begin with an outmoded 200-square-foot kitchen. In this case, the remodeled kitchen would have 30 linear feet of top-of-the-line custom white cabinets with built-in sliding shelves and other interior accessories. Stone countertops with imported ceramic or glass tile backsplashes would be installed. It would include a built-in refrigerator, a commercial-grade cooktop (with vent hood), a wall oven, and a built-in microwave unit. It would come with the installation of a high-end under mount sink and designer faucets and a water filtration system.
In addition, you would expect new general and task lighting—including low-voltage under cabinet lights. Flooring would call for the installation of either tile or similar flooring that looks like wood.
The average cost for an upscale kitchen remodel of this kind runs $131,669.
