Living in Decatur makes you love Decatur, and loving it makes you want to share it. Just minutes from downtown Atlanta, this city boasts all the conveniences of a major metropolitan area while retaining its own vibrant, small-town charm. As a home improvement company near Decatur that highly values the preservation and restoration of historic homes, we love this area for its beautiful architecture as well as its plethora of festivals, restaurants, and points of interests. Allow us to share that love with you today.

Fun Festivals

Festivals in Decatur GA

One of our favorite annual festivals is Decatur, GA’s Porchfest on October 13th. Porchfest is the ultimate grassroots music festival, where porches in Decatur’s neighborhoods become stages where local musicians perform. The idea is to rekindle neighborly connections in a fun and casual environment where onlookers can spend the afternoon meandering from one yard to the next. While the idea of Porchfest originated in Ithaca, NY, we think front-porch hospitality fits uniquely with our Southern culture, which is why we love this one so much.

October is also the time for Decatur’s Craft Beer Festival. Here, you can enjoy tastes from more than 80 breweries while listening to live music and socializing with your friends. The Craft Beer Festival is followed closely by the Decatur Wine Festival on November 3rd, which features nearly 500 different wines. In December, you can celebrate the holiday season with tree lightings, a menorah lighting, and bonfire/marshmallow roasts.

Decatur Dining

Restaurants in Decatur GA

Touted by tourists and locals alike, The Iberian Pig is a memorable dining experience for those who enjoy Spanish-inspired tapas. Their menu is constantly changing and offers one of the country’s largest selections of cured meats and imported cheeses. For a more casual dinner, nothing beats the Brick Store Pub, which has delicious fish ‘n’ chips as well as classic American favorites. If your fancy runs toward relaxed, authentic French fare, enjoy brunch at Cafe Alsace, which has some of the area’s best quiches, croissants, salads, and soups.

Cultural Excursions

Visit the Michael C. Carlos Museum on Emory’s campus for unique exhibits ranging from Andy Warhol paintings to Near Eastern art and the Fernbank Science Center, where you can gaze at a planetarium, see the real Apollo 6 command center, and view a live animal exhibit filled with turtles, snakes, spiders, frogs, and more.

Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta GA

You’ll also love the Georgia Aquarium, which houses over a hundred thousand animals of several thousand species. Whether you want to see seals, white sharks, puffins, jellyfish, penguins, or belugas, the Georgia Aquarium is the place to be.

If you simply want a way to enjoy the natural beauty of the Decatur area, take a stroll through the 200 acres of the Piedmont Park Conservatory, which hosts a lakefront and a resort-style public pool, biking trails, volleyball, basketball, tennis, and bocce courts, off-leash dog parks, green markets, and more. These are just a few of the reasons we love living in Decatur!
